Did you know that the potato blight of 1845-1852 was not confined to Ireland? Germany, France, Belgium, Holland, Scotland, and, yes, even England lost their potato crops. The hardships of widespread agricultural failure contributed to the wave of revolution that swept Europe in 1848. Unfortunately, Ireland was the country least capable of coping with the economic crisis.
